With 13 years of three-dimensional sculpting experience, Yong Chen excels at bringing the spirit of human and animal figures to life. He has created on site in France and multiple U.S. cities, with every curve and every thread following traditional forms. He specializes in sculptural creation of lanterns, particularly the three-dimensional shaping of human and animal figures.
Earlier in his career, he participated in lantern projects in Baotou (Inner Mongolia), Zhengzhou Film Town’s “Miss Cat” festival, and the Xi’an City Wall Lantern Festival. Internationally, he has worked on lantern creation and artistic management in Calais City Park (France) and U.S. cities including Wichita, Louisville, Seattle, Oakland, Palm Desert, Buffalo, Los Angeles and Boston.
When I build a dragon, I imagine becoming the dragon myself — how it would lift its head or sweep its tail. Every curve contains a piece of my imagination.
