Xinyu Song graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Sichuan University of Science & Engineering.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to major lantern festivals at Nanjing Confucius Temple, Jinan Baotu Spring, Xi’an Tang Paradise, and Xining, as well as international exhibitions including the National Museum of Natural History in Paris (2018–2024), projects throughout Belgium (2018–2025), Cologne Zoo (2018–2025), Los Angeles Zoo (2022–2025), Philadelphia (2019–2025), Seattle (2021–2025), and North Carolina (2019–2025).
With 18 years of experience managing every stage of lantern creation, Xinyu is not simply an engineer—he is the guardian of traditional craftsmanship. He ensures that every process, from layout and welding to fabric mounting and painting, follows Zigong lantern-making traditions while meeting local climate and safety requirements. His greatest strength lies in coordinating artists on site, ensuring a seamless blend of artistic vision and technical execution.
When I walk the site every day, I’m not checking work progress. I’m looking to see whether the dragon’s eyes have spirit and whether the silk tension is perfectly balanced.
