Shengkai Mei graduated with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering. With 22 years of experience, he applies engineering precision in service of artistic lighting expression. Throughout his career, he has designed and realized the lighting artistry infrastructure for lantern exhibitions in Rotterdam and Groningen (Netherlands), as well as projects in Boston, Cleveland, Dallas, and other U.S. cities.
He is responsible for crafting the pathways of light, integrating control systems, fine-tuning voltage, and implementing waterproofing – always with the goal of ensuring that every lantern’s artistic vision remains safely and beautifully illuminated throughout exhibitions that often last for weeks.
Safety comes first, beauty comes second—but I insist on achieving both. Visitors never notice the wiring behind the lanterns, and that’s how I know I’ve done my job well.
