Since 2015, Xiaoxu Zhuo has been dedicated to the technical execution of Zigong lantern craftsmanship, focusing on translating design concepts into precise fabrication blueprints. With 11 years of experience in the intangible heritage craft, he specializes in interpreting cultural and aesthetic requirements – such as the correct curvature of a dragon’s claws or the layered structure of phoenix feathers – and embedding them into every stage of the pre‑creation process.
His expertise lies in refining construction methodologies, analyzing material properties, and resolving complex structural challenges before fabrication begins. By working closely with design and artisan teams, Xiaoxu ensures that each lantern adheres to the strict traditional standards of Zigong lantern-making, preserving its cultural authenticity and artistic integrity from the very first sketch.
Every lantern carries centuries of tradition. My job is to make sure that tradition is faithfully translated into every cut, every joint, every curve – before the work even begins.
